The Journey Begins…
The Dadventure Show was something I started considering shortly after having some mid-life struggles. I won’t call it a “crisis”, because that’d be too melodramatic for my particular situation. I started asking all sorts of questions. Was I happy with the way my life was going? Was I happy with my relationship with my wife, or my relationships with my children? Was I happy at work? Did I feel like I was making progress toward leaving this world a little better than I found it? What caused my struggles was the answer to these questions and others like it: “nope”.
I wasn’t where I wanted to be in just about every respect, and I decided that I needed to make some progress. I told myself, “if I never try anything, I’ll never do anything.” Simple as it might sound, it was actually quite profound for me to recognize this truth after living what is probably about half of my life. After a lot of thought and prayer, I determined that it was about time I started to use my voice. While I wasn’t sure what for, I just knew I wanted to discuss things that mattered and that I also found to be fun. After talking about this with my good friend, Jarom, over some pizza, we decided to try our hand at podcasting.
We discussed the purpose of our podcast various times over the following months, and determined that this podcast was meant to bring like-minded people together over shared interests and values; particularly fathers. In a society that has largely belittled the importance and, sadly, even the necessity of men and fathers, we want to be a companion to those fathers out there who are trying to reach their potential as they love and serve their families and the communities in which they live. Of course, we’d love to have the wives and the kiddos out there along for the ride, too! As dads ourselves, we hope you will come to view us as trusted companions on your “hero’s journey”, aka: “life”.
That journey, that call to become something greater than we are now through the trials we face, can seem daunting at times. We hope you know that we are cheering you on as we accompany you, sharing stories by the proverbial fireside, providing some (hopefully) inspiring discussion, sharing some laughs, and “nerding out” together over the hobby of gaming.
Our logo, as you may have noticed, features a warrior’s helmet on a black background with a halo of gradient orange around him. We feel this logo represents all of us, standing against the darkness that is, at times, part of our mortal existence, all while passing through fires of affliction and trial. The phrase in the logo, “The journey begins . . .”, is meant to elicit an understanding that every moment can be the beginning of a journey towards improvement, greater joy, and fulfillment. Every day, every hour, and even every minute can be the beginning of your hero’s journey as you work toward becoming the person you truly desire to be. Dwelling on the mistakes of yesterday is not nearly as useful as focusing on the promise of the future.
We hope you find support with us and, with any luck, a greater sense of community with other people who share your same values and interests. So, with that, fellow “Dadventurers”, THE JOURNEY BEGINS!
